The Circular Economy Lab meets students and managers to discuss Circular Economy

May was the month of Circular Economy: the team of the Circular Economy Lab met managers and students in the occasion of workshops and lectures dedicated to the topics of circularity and the impact in terms of business and resilience.

Education has always been one of the 3 founding pillars of the Lab, which aims at experimenting and disseminating new models of value creation capable of combining the development of businesses and organizations, with the protection and enhancement of human, natural, social and economic capital.

The main events are as follow:

With the Sustainability Management Business School

A lecture about Circular Economy with the students (MBA and Master) of the Sustainability Management School (SUMAS) as part of the Career Week.

SUMAS is an internationally active Swiss school that has been offering specializations in sustainability management for 10 years in a business administration degree course.

The lecture started with a description of the concept of Circular Economy as "a new economic paradigm with a positive impact". Then, the CE Lab’s activities and services in support of the circular transformation of companies were presented, and the concept of open innovation was also explained to the students through the presentation of concrete cases developed in collaboration with companies from different sectors.

A specific focus was dedicated to the important economic impact of the Circular Economy: from the generation of economic value to the creation of new job opportunities driven by the demand for new skills.

CE Lecture - Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera - Scuola di Progettazione artistica per l'Impresa

An interactive lecture for students of the Master's Degree course in School and Artistic Design for Business at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, within the "Design management and Logic and business organization" course.

In addition to illustrating the main activities carried out by the CE Lab and providing students with both theoretical concepts and practical examples of the main innovation strategies from a circular perspective, the lecture was focused on the importance of design in the change of paradigm from a linear economy to a circular model.

Design is the decision-making process that lies upstream of the production process. It is at this stage that the choices that will impact the entire value chain are made, from the use phase to the end of life.

The students were able to approach the topic from a different and very innovative point of view, participating directly in the lesson, thanks also to an interactive "Q&A" tool.

CE LECTURE MASTER BIOCIRCE - Milan

Biocirce, born in 2017, is the first European Master on Bioeconomy and Circular Economy. The Master's program includes 4 intensive teaching modules held in the cities of the 4 participating universities (Milan Bicocca, Naples Federico II, Turin and Bologna).

During the Milanese module, the experts of the Circular Economy Lab of Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Cariplo Factory held an interactive lecture session with the dual objective of illustrating the operational activities of CE Lab and providing the students of the Master with theoretical and practical tools related to open innovation processes.

The students had the opportunity to deepen one of the most recent Circular Open Innovation programs developed by CE Lab with a focus on bioeconomy, proving themselves in activities such as startup scouting simulation, startup identification, compilation of the business model canvas and pitch presentation, reinforcing at the same time their team working and public speaking skills.

SDA Bocconi

A workshop organized for the students of the international course of Sustainable Operations Management of SDA Bocconi about methods and case studies of Open Innovation that big companies and SMEs are adopting to internally implement the transition to the circular economy. The working methods can be various, depending on the degree of company maturity: internal entrepreneurship programs for the creation of company spinoffs, research and evaluation of innovative technologies, scouting of startups and Innovative SMEs for the introduction of new innovative materials, creation of POC startups-company to introduce new products to the market.

Once the most promising solutions have been identified and aligned with the corporate strategy and culture, the execution and management capabilities of operations are essential for the success of large-scale innovation and to ensure the desired impact.
